Research
at Sai Tso Wan Landfill, Lam Tin
Eco-Green System has been applied at Sai Tso Wan Landfill in Lam Tin, Hong Kong. Eco-Green System is an enhanced vegetation system evolved from the unique hydromulching technique called Toyo-Mulching System. The research is carried out to monitor the performance of different shrubs (small flowering plants) growing on the slope.
May 2003 January 2004
By implementing Eco-Bag, a durable pvc bag filled with soil mix with 300 mm thickness and followed by spraying fiber soil covering the whole slope, vegetation other than grass and climbers like shrubs can be planted on the slope with this additional planting medium of Eco-Bag.
Used of Eco-Bag Planting Shrubs
The
shrubs are planted in the Eco-Bag which provides additional nutrients and
moisture for the shrubs established on the non-soil slope.
Eight species of shrubs are chosen, all of them are native species except
Tagetes erecta which was believed to repel mosquito.
The reason of choosing native species is that they can easily adapt to
the local environment and grow well under the climate of Hong Kong with low
maintenance.
Various shrubs have been chosen to plant in the research site and the growth of shrubs is monitored regularly. Site inspection and data collection is carried out since September 2003 and the research will be completed in September 2004.
