Pit Planting

Pit planting of seedlings shall be carried out by forming a pit of about 1 cubic meter, depends on the rootball sizes of the plant, the pit shall be sufficiently deep to accommodate the root system of the seedling.

Pit planting of seedlings, shrubs, whips and herbaceous plant

The size off pits for seedlings, sheubs, whips and herbaceous plants shall be 100 mm greater than the rootball or container diameter and 50mm deeper than the rootball or container. 50g of pre-planting fertilizer shall be mixed into the soil-mix.

Whips which in the opinion of the Engineer require to be staked shall be secured using one 2m long stake and one 2m long stake and one tie.

Pit planting of light standard and standard trees

The size of pits for light standard trees ad standard trees shall be 200mm greater than the rootball or container diameter and 100mm deeper than the rootball or container. The bottom of the pit shall be broken up to a depth of 150mm. 150g of pre-planting fertilizer shall be mixed into the soil-mix.

Pit planting of heavy standard trees

The size of pits for heavy standard trees shall be 300mm greater than the rootball or container diameter and 150mm deeper than the rootball or container. The bottom of the pit shall be broken up to a depth of 150mm. 250g of pre-planting fertilizer shall be mixed into the soil-mix.

Each tree shall be secured using two 3m long stee stakes and two ties. Trees exceeding 4m overall height shall be guyed.
